Q

As a pretty new band, should we expect to see more of your work?

The Slants responded on 08/09/2010
A

Definitely.

This band has been busy from day one. We've only been around for three years but have released three albums toured North America over ten times and played over 250 shows. When we're not touring, we're constantly developing new ideas and writing songs. In fact, we already have the groundwork laid for the 4th release.

We're not the kind of band that just sits around, we like to stay busy :)

Q

What's your favorite breed of dog? Or do you just get them from the local shelter? How do you take care of them while you're on tour?

The Slants responded on 08/08/2010
A

Aron has a huge black lab and a tiny French bulldog; Simon has an American Eskimo and a German Sheppard/Siberian Husky. With the exception of the French bulldog, all of them were adopted from a local animal shelter. We strongly support adopting animals.

As for dog care, we have friends who chip in as well as local dog care centers for shorter trips.

Q

Tyler, do you always wear gloves when you play? I've never seen a drummer play with gloves on before. Is there a specific reason you wear them or is it just because you look extra awesome that way? :D

The Slants responded on 08/08/2010
A

Tyler always wears gloves when he's playing - but rather than using drummer gloves, which tend to wear out quickly, he prefers batting gloves. It keeps a firm grip on the stick, reduces some of the shock (therefore reducing the amount of "tennis elbow"), and has a distinct look.

Q

I love the Slants' lyrics. How do you go about writing them? Does inspiration come from anywhere in particular?

The Slants responded on 08/08/2010
A

Aron typically grabs inspiration from everywhere and anywhere - movies, books, or life experiences (usually life more than anything else). He usually writes the melody first, by jogging to the music demos that Simon creates. After he has a "feel" for the song and "mood," the lyrics come more naturally.

Q

Did you like going to Sakura Con in Seattle?

The Slants responded on 08/08/2010
A

Indeed - we loved it so much in 2008 that we returned again for 2009. Also, Simon did several panels for this year's convention about the band and to share the new album.

Q

Simon,( I'm going to assume it was you learning bass from Duff McKagen) how did you manage to get him as a teacher? I currently play piano and cello, and want to start bass, but my parents don't agree

The Slants responded on 08/08/2010
A

I didn't take lessons from Duff directly, just studied his technique and had plenty of Guns n Roses sheet music. I took lessons for three years from a blues/jazz bassist named Nat

Q

Cats or dogs?

The Slants responded on 08/08/2010
A

All of the band members own or have owned dogs at one point but only Tyler and Johnny have ever had cats.

Current pet owners are: Aron - two dogs, Simon - two dogs, and Tyler - one cat.

Q

Any martial arts practitioners in the band?

The Slants responded on 08/08/2010
A

See above :)

Q

Any martial arts practitioners in the band?

The Slants responded on 08/08/2010
A

No one is active in the arts at the moment; however, both Tyler and Simon like to practice boxing techniques while doing workouts - and Johnny has nailed his sleeping technique

Q

The Slants rock! Do you like fan art?

The Slants responded on 08/07/2010

Thank you! And yes, we do. As a matter of fact, we have an entire photo album of fan art submitted to us on our Myspace page
